Why i want to work retail - HELP
Today i picked up applications at several stores around lubbock, several in the mall to be exact and when i was filling out the applications, and subsequently visiting with one of the managers, i realized i was not prepared for the types of questions i would be asked, both on the forms and face to face. i found the hardest question to be "why would you like to come to work for our company?" uh, i like your clothes. they're cute. didn't say that but i did feel like an idiot. so i beseech you to help me in my quest for a second job to provide me with answers to questions such as this and others like "what strengths will you bring to our company?" and "what didn't you like about your previous jobs?" and "if you could be an animal what would it be and why?" ok so that last one wasn't on there but who knows, they might ask me it in the interview so i've got to be ready. a girl can't take any chances...

niece kate i know the anxiety you were going thru, uncle joe asked me the same questions this past fall before harvest. the most disconcerting Q was, I am going to be a grandpa, what do i do next????
t.o.
End every interview question response with the phrase "in accordance with the prophecy".
If that doesn't impress them I really think you should try more of your jokes- if they don't like them then you really don't want to work there anyway b/c who wants a boss without a sense of humor??
Seriously though, everybody feels like an idiot after an interview. I think the questions are designed to catch you off guard to see how you react. Just be yourself. With your good looks and great attitude you have nothing to worry about!
saweet! i have good looks and a great attitude. that's what i should have put on the 'strengths' portion of the application.
grrr.
i think you should watch the office for little nuggets of interview answer wisdom. michael scott knows so much.
I like the 'in accordance with the prophecy'. A strong and sound answer for sure. It is hard to argue or even question such a statement.
You could also prepare a musical number for each interview. If you interview at the Gap then right a song about the Gap and maybe a few dance steps. That will show 'go-getter-ness' and team spirit. Cooperations really like team spirit.
A third option is to just be honest with them. I'm not saying to be arrogant about it, just honest. Tell them you will work hard, serve costumers, help make them money so to speak. I'm sure they get a lot of poop about how people love their store and things. Might be a fresh air. Also, you don't leave the interview feeling like an idiot. You also don't get flustered when asked a question. Just some thoughts.
Lastly, have your answer ready for that animal question. Pick something really weird...like one of those glow in the fish that change colors. Make up some silly reason and then end it with 'in accordance with the prophecy.' All of that should be in a song of course.
Love you and you will do great!
